Kit Wharton – Emergency Admissions
September 30, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm£10
Required reading for the Health Secretary.
An S&M party gone horribly wrong. A dead man locked in a car with a hungry bull terrier. A teenage girl with suspicious abdominal pains. A man who has fainted, frightened he was allergic to his cheese and onion sandwich … just another day’s work.
Kit Wharton followed his heavy-drinking parents into journalism, but it wasn’t for him. Now he has found the job he loves. As a driver for the NHS ambulance service each 999 call can hurtle him into the critical moment of another person’s life.
And all life is here too, not just the great and the good – who already receive ample coverage at literature festivals – but the terrible circumstances that so many people live in. What the working man and woman in public service face, on a daily basis, is astonishing.
Great fun, fast-paced and with plenty of black humour, Wharton’s tales lightly veil the broken state of so much of our society. If he occasionally sounds a little detached it’s because he knows he’ll soon be off to deal with yet another crisis.
Kit Wharton will be in conversation with Nick Fogg. Nick has twice been Mayor of Marlborough and is the founder of the Marlborough Jazz Festival and co- founder of the Marlborough LitFest.
