Wednesday, March 27th, 2013
We are delighted that Britain’s Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, will round off the 2013 LitFest with readings from her work. She will be joined by John Sampson who will provide both musical interludes and collaborative performances, combining his atmospheric music with Carol Ann’s poems.
Carol Ann Duffy lives in Manchester, where she is Professor and Creative Director of the Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University. She has written for both children and adults, and her poetry has received many awards, including the Whitbread Prize, the Forward Prize, the Signal Prize for Children’s Verse, and the Lannan and E M Forster Prizes in American. Carol Ann Duffy was appointed Poet Laureate in 2009.
John Sampson plays lots of different instruments including the Crumhorn, Gemshorn, Shalmie Pipe, Posthorn, Recorders, Cornetttino and Chinese Halusi which he performs between poetic sections and which underscore some poems. Carol Ann and John have worked together for 10 years.
